A native of Virginia, Samuel Carr settled in Charlestown, Ind. in 1810, where he worked as a carpenter. Carr also served in the War of 1812. Relative John Carr served in the state militia in the 1830s and was a judge for the Clark County circuit court in the 1820s and 1830s. John Carr, a native of Pennsylvania, moved to Clark County, Ind. in 1808. Carr entered politics at the county level in 1824, and went on to serve in the Indiana House and U.S. Senate. His son Andrew Jackson Carr studied law, served in the Indiana House, and as Clark County treasurer. From the description of Carr family papers, 1829-1925. (Indiana Historical Society Library).
